The Vermilion Fire Department has been providing fire protection for the municipality of Vermilion for over 80 years. The first fire truck the town ever purchased was from the city of Edmonton after the great fire of 1918. This truck is still in the fire departments possession and will likely be displayed in the Canadian Fire Museum and Discovery Center.
map Vermilion Fire Department consists of 25 volunteer members and provides fire protection to the municipality of the Town of Vermilion and the County of Vermilion River #24. VFD provides an area of approximately 800 square miles with fire protection, vehicle extrication, and other various rescue services. In 1998 the department responded to 135 fire calls and 38 MVA's.
The Town of Vermilion is located on highway 16 about 200 km east of Edmonton. The town has a population of approximately 4500 people and has two secondary learning institutions. The Lakeland College and the Alberta Fire Training School.
This is the third vehicle extrication competition VFD has participated in. We would like to wish all competitors good luck and hope they have a good time.
