The Mayerthorpe Fire Department was established in September of 1940 as the "Mayerthorpe Fire Brigade".

map In 1993, the Mayerthorpe Fire Department moved into the newly constructed "Emergency Response Center", complete with a hose tower, 7 vehicle bays, living quarters and offices, at a cost of 1.2 million dollars. This facility houses our rescue unit, two pumpers, a water tanker, and two ambulances for our local emergency medical service. At present, we are in the process of assembling a newer rescue/mini pump which should be completed by the end of April.

The department covers an area of 500 square miles consisting of the Town of Mayerthorpe and the western end of the County of Lac Ste. Anne with a population of approximately 4000 people. Presently the fire department has 17 members which respond to approximately 40 fire rescue calls per year.

We have been involved with the vehicle extrication since 1980 with the purchase of our first set of Hurst spreaders and cutters. This will be the fifth consecutive vehicle extrication competition we have entered. We also hosted the N.C.A.V.E.C. in 1996.

Team members are: Todd Ball (Captain), Dan LaValley, Yvonne Hunder, Tom Eichorn, Manning Murphy, and Bob Parent (Alternate).

We wish Whitecourt success in hosting the 1999 competition and good luck to all participating teams.
