Town of Whitecourt

map elcome to the Town of
Whitecourt's Home Page.  We're glad that you stopped by and hope you enjoy your virtual visit...and hope that you will soon join us in person.

Located at the convergence of the McLeod and Athabasca Rivers, Whitecourt's native name, "Sagitawah", means "where even the rivers meet."  I like to think that saying extends to the friendliness of our citizens at welcoming visitors and new residents to our Town.

If you are looking for something to do, Whitecourt is the place to do it.  From outdoor pursuits such as hunting, fishing and hiking, to cultural pursuits, our community has something to offer everyone.  Known as the "Snowmobile Capital of Alberta", Whitecourt has a user friendly attitude towards snowmobilers that allows travel on approved trails right from their home or motel out to the myriad of trails surrounding the Town, or to link up with the Golden Triangle; 220 km of groomed snowmobile trails connecting Whitecourt with Fox Creek and Swan Hills.  Culturally, our local theatre group performs two dinner theatre productions each year and participates in one act play competitions.  Our local Arts Council features many award winning Artists, and they operate an art gallery and organize a craft show each November that attracts exhibitors from all over Alberta.  As well, a community choir  mounts a spring concert each year.  Whitecourt also features a multitude of organized sports, for both adults and children, including slow pitch, soccer, gymnastics, and volleyball, to name just  a few.

Town operated facilities include a 25m pool complex featuring a children's wading pool, hot tub, sauna, racquetball and squash courts.  The Twin Arenas has two ice surfaces, one of which has ice in year round.  Graham Acres Sport Field Complex has slow pitch and ball diamonds, soccer and football fields.  The sport field complex is adjacent to Graham Acres Golf and Country Club, an 18 hole golf course that is one of the finest in Alberta.  The Rodeo Grounds Park, located in downtown Whitecourt, houses soccer and football fields and a new pond that will accommodate fishing and canoeing in the summer and ice skating in the winter.

Please look further into our web site.  We've enjoyed creating it and we hope you enjoy looking into it.
