Assessment and Taxation Department is responsible for preparing assessments
of property, and collecting property tax on behalf of the Town, Provincial
Government (education tax), and Seniors Foundation from Whitecourt property
owners. Property values are reviewed annually to reflect current values.
The Town assessor evaluates properties based on a number of variables
including lot and home size, finished basement, construction quality
and location. After completing an analysis of property data, verification
of sales data, surveys and site visits, assessments are prepared with
the aid of a computerized mass appraisal system.
